Improv goings on..

Last night, I performed with The Improv Playhouse, out of Libertyville at a ten year old's birthday party. which was hosted at a Hindu Temple in Grays Lake Illinois. It was fun and after the fact, I was thinking, "This is my second religious audience I performed for". The first was in 2001- at 106.7's FishFest at Navy Pier" I got to do He-Bonics in front of Thousands of Christians with my good friend and radio host Sandy Rios. Now I was standing in front of hundreds of Hindu adults and kids performing improvisation featuring the works of the rock group, Queen and Tony the Tiger. I am the luckiest person in the world. Who is this Dave "Nobody's The" Weiser?

As a kid, Dave had no interest in news or talk radio. The extent of his radio experience was during the seventies, when he would call in to radio shows from time to time to request "Seasons in the Sun". Dave's loves were going to shows, watching movies and TV, but his favorite pastime was playing Leap Frog Trivia. In 1990, Dave graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Design from Ray College in Chicago. It was in 1992 when he discovered three new things: Second City, current events and his future wife. The three went hand in hand. Through his improvisation classes, he got to keep up with current events and different social trends. His previous knowledge of television and movies seemed to help him out. It was at Second City where Dave met his wife, Victoria, who happened to be one of the sisters of one of his classmates. In 1995, Dave graduated from The Second City Conservatory and went on to co-create The Absent Minded Theatre Company. After four years of traveling with the theater company Dave finally discovered his true calling, RADIO. He decided to enroll in the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, gearing towards his new goal to work in production and on air for a News/ Talk Radio Station. It was soon after that Dave started interning at WYLL. Then just shortly after he started his internship he became a full time Operations Assistant. Dave's continued work efforts lead him to a promotion in November of 2000 when he was appointed to the position of Content Producer for the Sandy Rios Show. Shortly thereafter, Kevin McCullough (Now in New York radio) took over a co-hosting role with Deborah Rowe (Now at WLS). This provided Dave with the opportunity to assume the position of Senior Producer and in that summer, Dave got to arrange and interview such TV Icons as Mr. Rogers, Ray Rayner, (Shortly before they passed away) Bill Jackson of Dirty Dragon fame and that lovable Alien who loves cats, ALF.. That was a summer not to forget. That was, until 2003. This is when Mr. McCullough decided to hit the big apple and strike out on his own, leaving Dave as the last man standing and ready to take on the challenges of a new host, Scott Thomas and the challenges of making Mr. Thomas laugh on the air until water came out of his nose. This radio relationship last for 3 and 1/2 years when Scott was wooed away from the microphone for a real job. In the meantime, Dave went back to his Improv roots and took up with a few troupes in Chicago to the tune of writing and performing songs and sketches and being able to become an Elvis Presley impersonator and do short form Improv games in front of an audience. Cut to the end of 2006, when the folks at WYLL went looking for a replacement host... and they went back to the lady that started it all for Dave, Sandy Rios. sandy is a Fox News Contributor and head of Culture Campaign. This was a year when the politics and the pundits came fast and furious. (And I’m not just talking about Ambassador John Bolton). This was a dream come true. Dave was able to connect with the polls and the celebrities, regardless of Sandy's love for talking with politicians. In June of 2007, Dave, having a craving to get on the air and talk to people and rap about pop culture, for which he was named Mr. Cinema in 2003 (Thank you, Roger Plummer) Dave decided to star an Internet talk show on Blog Talk Radio. It stared out slowly, going from 30 to 90 minutes, but Dave, with his co-Host and Good friend John O’Connor took on the challenge about talking about the influence of pop culture on society. In The movies, on TV, in literature and comic books and of course, in politics. This became John and Dave's pop Culture America and now, has become "Pop Culture America w/ John and Dave. They talk with authors. Pundits, media columnist, actors, and you name it, they will talk to them. He currently is on the air in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago doing a number of shows for WRMN 1410- 4 days a week. Dave loves what he is doing and he will always thank God for his three loves: his Family, Improv, and radio. Is this a GREAT country or what? (Sorry Mr. Smirnoff) People have asked, if Dave is related to Jimmy "Bud" Wiser, well, If it lands me a gig...YOU BET I AM.. HI, UNCLE JIMMY!!
